Saskatchewan Health Ministry Pilot Focuses on Senior Care

The province has announced a $500,000 pilot project in the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR) to assist seniors in staying in their homes longer. The goal is to delay seniors' need for a long term care facility. This has been run as a pilot project in the Regina/Qu'Appelle Health Region where the outcome has been positive. With this announcement, the government will expand the program to Saskatoon and Prince Albert.

Part of the funding will go to hire staff to make assessments of elderly patients who have had multiple visits to the emergency room. The aim will be to suggest services that could be delivered through home care that will prevent the need for these visits. The funding is in place for one year after which the program's effectiveness will be evaluated.
